Our beginner pottery wheel lessons are designed for anyone who has ever wanted to try throwing clay--no experience necessary.  With personalized instruction and only 5 wheels available per session, you will get plenty of guidance while learning the basics.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

 

During your 1 1/2- hour session, your instructor will teach you how to center clay and throw a cylinder--the foundation for creating bowls, cups and many other forms on the pottery wheel.

​

And don't worry if you have never touched a pottery wheel before.  We will guide you through it step by step.

​

At the end of your lessons, we will bisque fire your finished pieces.  Once they're ready, you'll come back to the studio to paint and glaze them, and we will fire them one final time.

We have up to 5 wheels available per appointment, so come on your own or grab a few friends and learn together.

Wheel lessons are by appointment only and must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance.

Once you have completed your basic wheel lesson, you will receive your

Fearless Mudslinger card, which allows you to come back and use our pottery wheels during open-wheel times when lessons aren't scheduled.

It's your chance keep practicing, experiment and build on what you learned-without committing to  a formal class every time you want to get behind the wheel.

ADULT 8-WEEK WHEEL THROWING WORKSHOPS

Want more than a one-time introduction to the pottery wheel?  Our 8-week workshops give you the time, instruction and practice to build your skills and create pieces you will be proud to take home.

​

Whether you are a complete beginner or already have some wheel experience, instructor Sarah Iannetta will guide you through the techniques you need to become more comfortable and confident working with clay.

​

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

​

Over 8 weeks you will work on:

​

• Centering clay on the wheel

• Pulling and shaping walls

• Trimming and finishing your pieces

• Creating different forms and shapes

• Glazing your finished pottery

​​

You will have the opportunity to work toward creating mugs, bowls, lidded vessels and chip and dip plates and more. Pottery takes practice, so everyone's finished pieces and progress will be a little different--and that's part of learning the wheel.

​

EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS INCLUDED

Your 8-week work shops includes instruction, clay, use of tools and equipment, glazing and all firings.

 

You can expect to create and glaze up to 8 finished pieces during the course. Want to keep more?  Additional pieces can be kept for $10 each. Finished pottery is generally ready for pick up 2-3 weeks after the final class.

PREFER TO CREATE WITHOUT THE WHEEL?​​

TRY HANDBUILDING WITH CLAY

No pottery wheel required.

​

Hand building lets you create directly with clay using techniques such as slabs, coils and pinch pots.  Make a cup, plate, bowl, vase, sculpture--or see where your imagination takes you.

​

It's a relaxed, beginner-friendly way for kids and adults to experience working with clay, and no previous clay experience is necessary.

 

Best of all?

 

Hand building clay is available as walk-in activity.

HOW IT WORKS

​​

Purchase your clay, and we will give you a quick introduction to the basics of hand building.  Then use our studio tools and equipment to create your pieces.

​

When you are finished we will bisque fire your work.  You will return to paint and glaze it, and we will fire it one final time.

​

Your clay purchase covers up to 3 people sharing the clay and includes:

Sharing with more than 3 people?  There is a $5 studio fee for each additional person.

If clay has become your happy place, our monthly membership gives experienced clay artists more freedom to practice, experiment and create on their own schedule.

BEFORE YOU JOIN

​

Our Clay Studio Membership is designed for people who already know how to independently work with clay.

​

A previous wheel lesson or proof of proficency is required.

​

Members must follow studio clay and equipment policies, including:

​

• Sign in and out for every studio visit -- even when you are just trimming or checking on a piece

• Maximum of 50 lbs of clay per month

• No outside clay or glazes

• Memberships are subject to management discretion.

​​

If you end your membership, any unused clay is forfeited.  Remaining pieces must be painted within two weeks of bisque firing.
